Mayan Calendar

The first evidence comes from the Mayan Calendar. According to Mayan calculations, the current cycle of the world is due to end in December 21, 2012. Thousands of years ago, the Mayans calculated that the length of the lunar moon was 329.53020 days, coming accurately close, with only 34 seconds left out. Since they were accurate about the lunar cycle, their prediction about the end of the world may also stand correct. The Mayan calendar was created in the year 3372 BC. The Mayans believed that the world was created and destroyed 3 times. Right now, we are supposed to be in the third cycle. One cycle lasts about 1872000 days which is about 5124.36 years; December 21, 2012 marks the end of the final cycle.

The calendar predicts that something will happen in 2012. Scientists have affirmed this, not the end of the world, but something extraordinary does take place. Something extremely rare happens to the earth known as pole shift. Polar Shift occurs only every 25800 years! Pole shift refers to when the north and south magnetic poles reverse their positions. This is the only time when the earth becomes in exact alignment with the sun and the center of the Milky Way galaxy. No one knows what effect this will have on the earth. However, the Mayans believed these effects will be dire. Scientists also believe so. The entire mantle of the earth will shift in a matter of days or hours, changing the position of the north and South Pole. This could cause worldwide disaster. Earthquakes will be shaking every continent, and Tsunamis will be destroying towns and lives. This is only a theory, but science supports it.

In 1955, Einstein suggested this, and a study from Princeton University suggested that this happened before. Studies say that the North Pole rested in the middle of the pacific 800 million years ago. If the pole shift takes place slowly, it will cause change of climate and shifting sea levels throughout the world. If it occurs rapidly, it could mean that there will be worldwide disasters and extinction of species. Indeed very scary to think about.
